Sylvia Plath, with her marvelous talent for words, is renowned as the most dynamic and admired American female poet after Emily Dickinson and Elizabeth Bishop in the 20th century. She committed suicide at the age of 32 in London, at the prime of her life. Her own life is inseparable from her poems. The thesis endeavors to explore Plath’s late poetry writing experiments with identity and the search for an authentic voice among her inner chaos with the help of Erik Erikson’s “Identity Crisis” theory.
