指称代词"此"与方位名词"外"在六朝时开始连用,"此"用来指称上文提到过的某个具体对象,随着指称对象的泛化,"此外"最终演变为一个转承连词。它的演变动因是代词并入、韵律限制、句法位置改变和高频使用。

Referential pronoun “ci” (“this” in English) and noun of orientation “wai” (“outside” in English) have been used since the Six Dynasties, “ci” refers to a certain above-mentioned object. With the generalization of referent, “ciwai” has been evolved into a deriving conjunction. The inducement of evolvement is pronoun incorporation, rhythm restriction, syntactic position change and high frequency use.
