In the late 1980s and early 1990s,‘Mao Zedong book fever’is an important part of‘Mao fever’in China. This paper uses the ‘5W’model of American communication scientist named Lasswell, Harold Dwight to analyze the characteristics of‘Mao Zedong book fever’in this period and reveals its social and political significance in the longitudinal comparison. The ‘Mao Zedong Book Fever’ has distinctive characteristics in terms of communicators, communication contents, communication objects, communication channels and communication effects. For example, the books were written by people who worked and lived around Mao Zedong, most of which reflected Mao Zedong's daily life. ‘Mao Zedong book fever’ was the product of great changes in social psychological states after the Incident of 1989. It is the symbol of increasingly transparent Chinese politics, which promotesMao Zedong to walk down fromthe“altar” and plays a historical role in linking the past and the future for the rapid rise of the Chinese nation.
