塔里木沙漠公路的通车不仅创造了世界交通史上的奇迹,而且沙漠公路防护林的建设也是世界造林防沙史上的奇迹。塔里木沙漠防护林生态工程是在综合分析沙漠公路沿线自然环境特点和风沙危害规律的基础上,依据沿线立地条件的差异性,选择和确定植物种类、林地结构布局、灌溉方式、以及需水定额、施工方法等。实现了沙漠公路的永久固沙,大大改善了塔克拉玛干沙漠的生态环境,为沙漠防沙治沙积累了有益经验。
