基于《三国演义》汉英平行语料库对“不计其数”的翻译研究

Study on the Translation of Chinese Idiom “Countless” Based on Chinese-English Parallel Corpus The Romance of Three Kingdom

《三国演义》中语言采用浅近的文言,明快流畅,雅俗共赏,不愧是中华语言文化宝典,而《三国演义》的英译本对中国文化语言的传播起到了举足轻重的作用。文章基于刘克强副教授研制的《三国演义》汉英平行语料库,对在译文中出现的24例"不计其数"成语进行逐一的翻译对比研究。通过运用翻译中的词义对等理论进行分析发现,其一,两位译者都能按照语境给出合适语境下的翻译,且呈现出翻译的丰富多样特征。其二,泰译和罗译在英译时使用词语方面各有特色,虽然罗译在语法层面更加多样,但两者在翻译时都体现了词义对等的翻译原则,也证明了翻译的艺术性和创造性。

The Romance of Three Kingdom,which was adopted accessible classical language,lively and smoothly,is worthy of atreasury of Chinese Language and Culture.While the English version of it played an important role in transmitting Chinese languageand culture.Based on the book Corpus Lexicography and Parallel Corpus-based Compilation of Idiom Translation Dictionary of theRomance of Three Kingdom written by associate professor Liu Keqiang,comparative translation studies on the idiom“countless”fromChinese to English was found that,on the one hand,two translators can give the appropriate translation according to the context,andit presents diversity and richness of translation.On the other hand,two translators have their preferences respectively,although thetranslation by Moss Roberts is more various than that by C.H.Brewitt-Taylor on the grammar level.While both of the translators serveto meaning equivalence in translation,which reflects the creativity and artistry of translation.
