3-50 High-LET Radiation-induced Mitochondrial Apoptosis in Breast Cancer Cells

Intrinsic apoptosis, a possible response to mitochondrial damage, in MDA-MB-231 cells exposed to different doses of carbon ions was investigated in this study. We assessed Bax and Bcl-2 expression and cytochrome c release in the mitochondria and cytosol of cells exposed to low (0.5 Gy) and high (3 Gy) doses of carbon ions using western blot analysis.
