中西文学观影响下的翟理斯《中国文学史》

Giles' Chinese Literary History under the Influence of Chinese and Western Literature Conception

翟理斯是西方著名的汉学家,他的《中国文学史》是英语世界里的第一部中国文学史。翟理斯的《中国文学史》产生于中西交汇的语境中,不可避免地受到两种文学观的影响。一方面,他受西方现代文学观的影响,把小说、戏曲与诗文并置,当作独立的审美对象加以叙述,提高了小说、戏曲的地位;另一方面,他沿袭了中国传统的杂文学观念,将大量的文化典籍纳入叙述范围。这两种截然不同的文学观念在他的著作中交织出现,使得《中国文学史》呈现出驳杂的样貌。

Herbert.Allen.Giles(1845-1935)is an extremely important Sinologist,the second professor of Sinology in Cambridge.A History of Chinese Literature written by Giles is the earliest“Chinese literary history”in English world.The writer tries to analyze the conception of literary history and constructive methods of literary history.In19th century,Giles’book was produced in this kind of context,inevitably affected by two Western and Chinese literature concept in the same time.On the one hand,he was affected by the western modern literature and counted novel and drama as independent aesthetic object,which promoted the status of them.On the other hand,He also followed the traditional Chinese concept of miscellaneous literature,since he brought a large number of cultural books and records into the text.The two distinct literary ideas appeared in his article,making this book presents a complex appearance.
