摘要
The photomultiplier tube is a vacuum electronic device widely used in spectrum analysis instrument. And itplays an important role in nuclear experiments. However, the base for the tube on the market can cost up to severalhundreds of dollars. Thus there is a need to develop a practical and economical PMT-base in our laboratory. We designed and tested a construction of a photomultiplier base used in a Cosmic Ray Detector. This PMT-baseused the so-called Cockcroft-Walton voltage multiplier circuit[1] to generate a graded series of voltages with linearadjustment from -100 to -1 200 V while the power consumption is low(50 mA current and 0.5 W power requiredunder a 12 V DC supply). Meanwhile other unique features such as simple structure, low cost, less heat dissipation, and safety are emphasized. The test results of the base with a negative high voltage are presented.
