由著名语法修辞学教授黄任编著的《英语语法教程—形式、意义与使用》一书是一部不可多得的英语专业本科语法教科书。结合章振邦教授《新编英语语法教程》(第五版)相关语法问题与之进行对比分析,文章认为该著围绕形式、意义和用法这三个语言的核心方面,以语言的语法特征"分析语"和"综合语"为指导思想,重构了虚拟语气、时和体;根据乔姆斯基转换生成语法对句子进行了不同界定,也对限定词、分句、非限定动词等提出了独到见解。同样,该书结合了中国英语语法教学与研究的实际,具有很高的学术参考价值。

An English Grammar Course book--Form,Meaning and Use,edited by Huang Ren of Shanghai Foreign Studies University,a well-known professor of English grammar and rhetoric,is a rare grammar textbook for English undergraduate majors.Contrasted with A New English Grammar Course Book(Fifth Edition)by Zhang Zhenbang,the paper analyzes some grammar issues,considering that the book with the guiding ideology of“synthetic language”and“analytic language”centered on form,meaning and use as its name suggests,reconstructs the subjunctive mood,tense and aspect and gives a different definition of the sentence according to Chomsky’s transformational-generative grammar;some original ideas about determiners,clauses,non-finite verbs are put forward.Meanwhile,this book enjoys high acedemic value in its combination of objective reality of English-grammar teaching and research in China.
