With the identity myth of the cloned human Iris as its narrative thread,The Secret:A Novel(2002)writtenby the Polish American writer Eva Hoffman explores the ethical problems caused by technical abuse in the scientificera.The feature of the novel lies in the combination of scientific ethics and psychological act,and further explores theinfluence of biotechnology on human identity and nature.Based on the ethical literary criticism and the uncanny,thisarticle attempts to discuss the novel’s ethical and moral connotation through the analysis of the narrative content andmode.The article evinces that the results and deconstruction of ethical knots,such as Iris’s psychological confusion,incest and identity pursuit,indicate the ultimate concern for human beings in the scientific era,and also puts out awarning against the irrational scientific choice.
