Chinese Translation of Contemporary Spanish Novels:The Development and Translation Techniques

当代西文小说中译的数量在近几年有明显增加的趋势,从学院派译者,一面执教于大专院校,一面翻译,到现在的全职译者的出现,皆是西语小说在中文市场竞争力日益提升的原因之一。以西语为母语的国家除欧洲的西班牙外,尚有中南美洲除巴西之外的各国,经过统计迄今繁体中文译本不下数十部。然而,探讨此类文本中译的发展及翻译技巧的研究并不多见。本文将首先从译者及译本的面向,简介近来西语小说中译本的发展,并列出其中的阶段性成果。接着从文化元素的中译技巧,归纳出当代西语小说中译最普遍使用的翻译技巧,亦将指出译者的偏好,以及这些翻译技巧对中文读者的影响,并藉由译者是否隐形的观点,指出西语小说在中文书市的特色。

Chinese translation of contemporary Spanish novels has substantially increased in number in recent years.Inaddition,thanks to the devotion of part-time translators teaching in colleges and the emergence of full-time translators inpresent days,Spanish novels have been thriving and became more and more competitive in the Chinese-language bookmarket.According to statistics,there are dozens of translations in traditional Chinese of Spanish novels from Spain andcountries in central and South America(except Brazil),where people speak Spanish as their mother tongue.Nevertheless,there are few studies discussing the development and translation techniques of the translations of texts in this category.This article begins with the introduction of the recent development of Chinese translations of Spanish novels in viewof translators and translated works,and is followed by listing the achievements accomplished so far.The author alsosuggests the most common translation techniques used in present days are based on the Chinese translation skills incultural elements.Furthermore,the article discusses translators’preferred techniques and the influences of thesetechniques on readers.The features of Spanish novels in the Chinese-language book market are also explored from theperspective of translators’invisibility.
