The Study of the English Translation of China's Classics that Enters into the Western Academic Circle——An Introduction and Comment on “Translating China for Western Readers”

作为西方翻译史上首部以汉语典籍的英译为专题的学术论著,《基于西方读者阅读期待的汉语典籍的英译》阐释了汉语典籍英译的本质——基于西方读者阅读期的阐释行为,论述了汉语典籍的英译标准、英译策略,同时探讨了"化境论"在汉语典籍英译中的具体运用,是一部建构汉语典籍英译理论的力作。本文拟对该书进行简要介绍和评价。

As the first influential academic works that deals with the English translation of China’s Classicsin the western academic circle,“Translating China for Western Readers”elaborates the English translationof China’s Classics as a Hermeneutic activity oriented towards the reading expectancy of western readers.Inaddition to that it expounds the standards,strategies as well as the application of“Real-m-ization”to thetranslation of China’s Classics.This essay proposes to introduce and comment on this work.
