国际化背景下英语专业人才培养的务实与务虚

Highlighting Concrete Matters and Profiling Schematic Things in Cultivation of English Majors against Background of Internationalization

中国目前不少学校的英语专业在人才培养上存在思辨缺席和人文修养不足两大弊病。究其原因,主要在于重技能而轻人文底蕴,重功利而不重专业内涵。为了培养能够适应国际化需求的高质量的英语人才,既要务实,又要务虚。务实表现在专业技能和方向技能以及公共技能的培养上,而务虚主要表现在加强人文修养、提高思辨能力和丰富想象力上。英语专业不等于翻译,也不等于教师。作为高等教育大家族中的成员,英语专业为学生提供的不应是独木桥,而应该是海阔天空。

In China’s current English majors exist the two disadvantages of absence of speculation and lack in humanistic accomplishment,which result from emphasizing skills but belittling humanistic connotations as well as focusing fame and gain but downplaying major connotation.In order to cultivate English talents accommodating to internationalization,highlighting concrete matters should be on a par with profiling schematic things in the cultivation of English majors.While highlighting concrete things is represented in the training of professional skills,directional skills as well as public skills,profiling schematic things is manifested in the strengthening of humanistic accomplishment,upgrading of speculative ability,and the enriching of imagination.English majors are not equal to translators or teachers.As a member in the big family of higher education,what English majors are supposed to provide for students are not single-plank bridges or narrow meandering footpaths,but a vast sea and sky.
