摘要
用质性调查问卷和量化阅读理解测试的方法检测同校同年级的两组大学生媒介素养与英语阅读理解能力,尝试考察新闻专业被试(47人)的媒介素养与非新闻专业被试(社会学专业)(41人)是否有差异以及新闻专业被试的英语阅读能力是否优于非新闻专业同学。假设前提是:测试材料全部来自外报、外刊,而新闻专业同学更加熟悉此类文章。结果显示两组被试在媒介素养上差异不大,而在阅读理解测试上非新闻专业的被试则有较大的优势,在三类题型的得分上均显著高于新闻专业同学。研究者认为导致这样结果的原因是媒介素养考查范围偏小。研究结果对《新闻传播学专业英语》教学以及《英语报刊选读》课教学均有启发意义。
This paper has examined the media literacy and English reading comprehension of two groups of students of the same university,attempting to confirm the hypothesis that students majoring in journalism and communication(N=47)are superior to students majoring in socilogy(N=41)both in media literacy and reading comprehension.The hypothesis is based on the fact that students of journalism and communication know better the reading comprehension material due to their training,as these passages in testing material are adapted from foreign newspapers or journalism.The results do not support the hypothesis:There are no significant differences in media literacy between two groups of participants,and the students of sociology have gained significantly higher scores than students of journalism and communication.The researchers assume that the results might be caused by the narrowly defined scope of media literacy.This research might shed light on teaching students specialized English and teaching Selected Papers from Foreign Newspapers and Journals.
