澳大利亚幅员辽阔,但是只有2400万人口。人口的分布状况在一定程度上限制了其互联网发展,尤其是在农村和偏远地区。和其它发达国家相比,澳大利亚在互联网的竞赛中已经有落伍的趋势,在宽带网等基础设施建设方面表现相对落后。以网络速度为例,澳大利亚前几年全球排名第30名,现在已经掉到第60名,其竞争力下降之快,在澳大利亚国内引发了很多关注和讨论。如何避免互联网领域的竞争力继续下降,如何利用互联网为企业创新和经济创新服务,是澳大利亚面临的挑战。

Australia is a vast country with only24million population.The sparsely distributed population in rural and remote areas to some extents has hindered its Internet development.Compared with other developed countries,Australia is lagging behind in the race of Internet,particularly in the infrastructure such as broadband.In terms of the Internet speed,it has dropped from30th to60th in a number of years.The fast pace of decline has aroused many discussions and debates within Australia.How to prevent Australia from further decline and how to make full use of Internet for innovation and economic development are challenges facing the Australian government.
