A Further Discussion on the Nature of the Dongba Religion of the Naxi People

东巴教是纳西族的文化象征体系和信仰制度,在民族宗教和历史发展中持续时间最长、影响最为广泛、深刻的民族宗教,同时兼容了民俗宗教,民间宗教,民间信仰的特点,它具备了宗教的本质特点及社会功能,它广泛深刻地生存、影响于纳西族民众的生活与文化世界,东巴教的性质绝非以"原始宗教""原始巫教"能够界定。它首先是由纳西族民众创造、传承的民族宗教,它又是与纳西族民众的生活与精神相互交融的民俗宗教,是纳西族民众中长期广泛流传的民间信仰,属于民间宗教的范畴。

The Dongba Religion is the cultural symbol system and the belief system of the Naxi people.In the history of their religion and development,it is the longest,the most influential and the most profound national religion that has existed in their life and culture.It has the characteristics of folk religion,non-governmental religion and non-governmental belief.Terms like“primitive religion”or“primitive witch religion,”therefore,are far from truth to define its nature.Firstly,it is a national religion created and inherited by the Naxi people.Secondly,it is a folk religion interweaving life and spirit of the Naxi people.Thirdly,it is a non-governmental belief of lasting,wide influence among the Naxi people.It can be defined as a non-governmental religion.
