摘要
当代爱尔兰作家科尔姆·托宾是21世纪爱尔兰文学的杰出代表之一,其作品多运用现实主义的手法再现爱尔兰人民移居他乡的生活,刻画人物在文化身份建构过程中的心理变化。小说《布鲁克林》是托宾的代表作,集中反映了托宾作品中的主题思想。本文从文化身份建构的角度,分析小说女主人公艾丽丝·莱西在爱尔兰文化与美国文化穿梭过程中两种身份的追寻与抉择。
As one of the elites of Irish literature in the21st century,contemporary Irish writer Colm Tóibín has frequently utilized realistic writing techniques to portray the migration story of Irish people,and vividly depict the characters’mental changes during the process of their construction of cultural identities.Published in2009,the novel Brooklyn can be regarded as one of the author’s representative works,which has conveyed the author’s motif of migration in a rather profound way.This paper centers upon the construction of cultural identity in order to demonstrate the protagonist Eilis Lacey’s two cultural identities while wandering between Irish culture and American culture.
