The process of modernization in France before twentieth Century

法国物产丰富、人杰地灵,一直都是欧洲的经济、文化、艺术中心,曾经在民族国家初建时,利用强大是专制王权,为现代化的起步做了充分准备。在它现代化的优势全面展现,需要有相应的政治变革时,它的旧制度却异常强大,最终在现代化的道路上落后于英国。本文旨在探求20世纪前法国现代化进程,并揭示其现代化进程漫长而曲折的原因。

The rich and outstanding products of France have always been the economic, cultural and artistic centers of Europe. When they were first built in the nation-state, they made full preparations for the beginning of modernization by making use of power as the absolute monarchy. When its modernization superiority is fully displayed and needs corresponding political change, its old system is extraordinarily strong, and eventually lags behind Britain in the modernization drive. The purpose of this paper is to explore the process of modernization in France before twentieth Century and to reveal the reasons for the long and winding process of modernization.
