摘要
林语堂常常被看作是中国文化"走出去"的成功典范,但是他也有失败的时候。本研究以林语堂的英文作品为例,通过比较其在大陆、香港、台湾、国外出版情况,分析其成败原因。同一著译者的作品在图书市场中或热销或滞销,编辑与出版社在此过程中起着至关重要的作用。中国文化要"走出去",出版社与编辑责无旁贷。
Lin Yutang is often seen as a successful example of spreading Chinese culture abroad, but he suffers failure in some cases. This paper, based on Lin Yutang's English works, analyses the reasons of his success and failure by comparing Lin's works published in the mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan and abroad respectively. It indicates that both editors and publishers play a key role in deciding the popularity of the author/translator's works. So editors and publishers are duty bound in transmitting Chinese culture to the world.
