基于文化语境视角的中国大学校训翻译研究

On Translation of Chinese Universities' Mottoes from the Perspective of Cultural Context

大学校训是学校办学理念和治学精神的高度浓缩,具有极强的文化语境。基于文化语境视角,从句型结构、语言措辞和文本内容三个纬度深入探讨了中国大学校训的翻译活动,并在此基础上得出了中国大学校训翻译的三原则:结构对等、措辞典雅和内容凝练。最后,总结了基于文化语境的中国大学校训翻译模式,即以文化语境为视角,以校训文本的句型结构、语言措辞和文本内容为纬度,以结构对等、措辞典雅和内容凝练为原则,对中国大学校训文本进行翻译,从而得出较为理想的译文。

University motto is a highly concentrated text which reflects a university9s educational philosophy and learning spirit and has a very high degree of cultural context.Based on cultural context,the paper explores the translating activities of Chinese universities5mottoes from such aspects as sentence structure,lexical use and meaning of the text so as to get three principles of translating Chinese universities’mottoes,namely,structural equivalence,elegant wording and concise context.Finally,a tentative translating mode of Chinese universities,mottoes is summarized:in order to get an ideal translated version of Chinese universities5mottoes,the translator can use cultural context as a point of view,adopt sentence structure,lexical use and meaning of the text as methods and base the translating activities on three translating principles of Chinese universities,mottoes which include structural equivalence,elegant wording and concise context in the process of translating activities.
