摘要
根据专门用途英语(ESP)的广义定义,较为详细地探讨了ESP的核心理念及其先进性,强调ESP是一种有效的教学方法,并由此得出我国高校大学英语教学急需从通用英语向专用英语转型的结论。同时探讨了认知上的一些误区会对推行ESP产生负面效应,在分析导致我国大学英语教学转型所面临的问题和困难的原因后,提出了关于加快转型的若干具体建议。
The core idea and the advanced characteristics of English for Specific Purposes(ESP)are dealt with in detail based on its essential definition.It is emphasized that ESP is in fact not only a tentative teaching approach,but also a highly effective one.Apparently,a reform for College English Teaching(CET)transitioning from General English(GE)to ESP in Chinese universities and colleges is urgently needed.However,some sort of misunderstanding in cognitive area prevents our teachers of English from using ESP to teach post-secondary or tertiary students in China.After analyzing the major reasons why the transition has been so complicated and difficult,the author offers a few recommendations to help speed up the reform.
