《金翼》一书是林耀华先生所写的一部描写生活在辛亥革命到日本人入侵中国前的30年间福建地区两大家族的盛衰兴亡过程的小说体裁的社会学、人类学著作。该书通过对两大家族在不同领域、不同地域的对比,展现了一幅在人际关系均衡化这一规律下的两个不同家族的兴亡史。在书中,人际关系均衡化的问题被不止一次提及,而它正是通过贯穿于全书的各种仪式,诸如诞生礼,婚礼,丧礼,乔迁礼以及各种节日所建立和维持的,并且围绕着这些仪式背后的人事变迁,而不断在打破、均衡、再打破、再均衡的规律中发展着。正是在这些仪式的支撑下,这一张人与人之间的关系网才赖以存在,并且维持、均衡着。
