二十世纪五六十年代,许多作家对台湾文坛盛行的战斗文艺极为不满,他们怀着革新的热情,学习西方现代派文学,寻求新的内容、新的形式。在艺术表现方面,台湾现代主义小说效仿西方现代主义小说,追求标新立异,尝试运用超现实、象征隐喻、时空交错、意识流等艺术手法,进行多方面的探索,而七等生在其现代主义创作技巧中的探索上取得了一定的成功,把西方现代主义的各种技巧较好地吸收过来,为自己的创作主题服务。

In 1950s and 1960s,many writers are extremely dissatisfied with the anti-Communist literature,and they tried to search for new contents and styles by learning from the Western modernist literature.The characteristics of such literary trends include creating something new in order to be different,the application of surreal,symbolic metaphor,time and space crisscross,stream of consciousness and other artistic techniques.Qi Deng Sheng has achieved certain success in their exploration of modernism creation skills and absorbed all kinds of western modernism skills to serve their own creative themes.
