晚唐诗歌在气势风格上总体成就不如盛唐,但晚唐诗歌在遣词造句方面确实有"秋花"之称,对仗工整,用韵委婉,如"江上之芙蓉,篱边之丛菊","极幽艳晚香之韵"。晚唐诗人代表之一就是杜牧,他的诗歌明显就具有以上特征,既对仗工整,又用韵委婉,既讲求用字,也讲究用词,这些诗歌艺术造成了杜牧诗歌独特的风格,也从另一个方面体现了晚唐诗歌的整体艺术风貌。
