中国古诗意象英译的概念隐喻转换——以许渊冲、卓振英等英译古诗词为例

Conceptional Metaphor Transformation of Images in Chinese Ancient Poetry——Taking the Translations of Xu Yuanchong and Zhuo Zhenying as Examples

隐喻在日常生活中随处可见。然而直到概念隐喻理论的提出,人们对隐喻的认识才由修辞手法转为思维方式和认知手段。中国古诗中的意象也是一种隐喻,托物寄情,借物言志。由于生活习惯、自然环境、文化传统的差异性,不同民族对同一事物的隐喻表达方式也不尽相同。因此在英译古诗意象的过程中,隐喻的转换也成为必要。本文以许渊冲、卓振英等名家英译古诗词为例,讨论了在英译古诗意象时,隐喻转换的现象。

Metaphor is seen everywhere in our daily life.People's knowledge about metaphor has transformed from a rhetorical device to a thinking mode and a cognitive means,since the Conceptual Metaphor has been put forward.The images in Chinese ancient poetry are also metaphors.Because of the differences in living habits,natural environments and cultural traditions,different ethnic groups have different metaphorical expressions of the same thing.Therefore,it is necessary to transfer the metaphors when translating the images in Chinese ancient poetry.Taking English translations of Chinese ancient poems by Xu Yuanchong and Zhuo Zhenying as examples,this paper discusses the phenomenon of metaphorical transformation in English translation of the images in Chinese poetry.
