A Study of the Daily Life of A Mid-Level Official in Beijing——Focus on Weng Zenghan Diary

通过对晚清内阁侍读翁曾翰个人及其家庭日常生活的考察,反映出京城士人在同治朝蹈循礼俗、热衷科举、抵触西方的生活图景。尽管同治朝在经历太平天国运动、西北回变与捻军运动等民变后,已开启以洋务运动为标志的近代化事业,但京城普通士人的日常生活、娱乐方式、精神世界,尤其是对西方的认知与观感并未发生实质变化,其日常生活节奏依然如故,从个体生命与生活史角度烛照出"同治中兴"背后潜伏的危险变局。

Through the examination of the personal and family daily life of Weng Zenghan who was a mid-level official in the late Qing dynasty,it reflects that in the reign of Tongzhi,the life of Beijing scholars still advocated etiquette,imperial examination and resistance of the West.Although the period experienced the Taiping Rebellion,the Moslem Rebellion in Northwest China and the Nian Army s Movement,and initiated modernization marked by westernization movement,the ordinary officials daily life in the capital did not changed substantively as well as their entertainment style,spiritual world,especially the cognition and perception of the west.The rhythm of their daily life still followed the tradition.From the perspective of individual life history,it displays some dangerous decay lurking behind“Tongzhi Resurgence”.
