20世纪,西人对中国的表述呈现出延续性误读和批判性误读的双重特征,延续性误读和批判性误读既相互区别又紧密相连。延续性误读更多关注中国是什么样的,中国是怎么运动的以及中国运动的内在维度,体现为对西方作为核心价值的肯定和中国作为沉默他者的默许;批判性误读更多从非西方的视角来认识中国,试图揭示占统治地位的西方文化与被压制的中国文化之间的对抗关系。在延续性误读和批判性误读的交替表述中,中国的文化身份不断被质疑和确认。

Western society's expressions of China in the 20th century are highlighted in their duality in constant misreading and critical misreading.The misreadings are different but interconnected.The first focuses on what China is,how China moves and what is inside in China's movements,which covertly affirms Western society as embodies of core values and its consent of China as a silent other.The second tends more to examine China in non-western perspective,which tries to reveal the antagonism between dominant western culture and prevailed Chinese culture.It is in the alternation between constant and critical misreadings that the Chinese cultural identity was constantly doubted and affirmed.
