Objective To explore the advantages of different depths of needle insertion in the therapeutic effect by comparing the efficacy of deep versus shallow needling in electroacupuncture at“lumbar herniation five acupoints”for lumbar intervertebral disc herniation.Method Electroacupuncture at“lumbar herniation five acupoints”was used to treat lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. The study was based on RCT design. The therapeutic effects of different electroacupuncture insertion depths were compared using the JOA score and VAS as evaluating indicators.A total of 60 patients were enrolled.Four patients dropped out. Finally, the data were analyzed in 56 patients including 28 in the deep needling group and 28 in the shallow needling group.Result The total efficacy rate was 92.9%in the deep needling group and 64.3%in the shallow needling group. There were statistically significant differences in the pre-/post-treatment difference values of the JOA and VAS scores between the two groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Electroacupuncture at“lumbar herniation five acupoints”has a definite therapeutic effect on lumbar intervertebral disc herniation. The therapeutic effect was better in the deep needling group than in the shallow needling group, which proves that different depths of needle insertion have different clinical therapeutic effects.
