“The Site of the Heteroglossia”: A Review of the Rhys Study

学界对加勒比裔女作家简·里斯的研究,自她在1966年"文学复活"后算起,距今已近半个世纪。由于种族、性别、文化等原因,学界一度难以为里斯在文学史上找到一个适当的位置进行评估与赏析,而今确认了里斯小说的经典性,但其特异性使之成为一个难解的谜。通过梳理国内外学界对里斯小说研究的成果,深入探讨里斯小说"声音之谜"带给后现代、后殖民社会的文学/文化遗产,由此揭示从"里斯研究"到"里斯产业"所体现的文化资本之争是如何促进英国与加勒比学者竞相解读"里斯之谜"并呈现丰富多彩的学术成果的,进而为我国学术界指明了里斯研究的最新走向并作未来展望。

Almost half of a century has passed since the Anglophone-Caribbean female writer,Jean Rhys,was studied after her literary revival in 1966.She has not been placed in a proper position in the history of literature owing to the racial,sexual and cultural reasons and the like.Nowadays,her novels have been rediscovered and rated as canon,but their alterity brings an intricate puzzle for us.This paper deals with the research achievements made by Rhys scholars all over the world and probes into the cultural legacy brought about by the“Puzzle of Voices”in Rhys’novels for the post-modern and post-colonial society,thereby showing how the contention for cultural capital embodied in the study of Rhys and the Rhys industry prompts the British and Caribbean researchers to compete to interpret the Rhys Puzzle with a tapestry of academic findings.On this basis,the paper attempts to point out the prospects of the further study of Rhys.
