Qian Zhongshu believes that“there is no border or geographical distinction in the academia”.He stands on the commonness of the human culture.He stresses that translators should have insights and judgment.Qian gets the essentials in a critical way from a large mass of materials in classical Chinese literature theory and translation theory;at the meantime,under the control of cultural self-consciousness Qian assimilates the fine achievements from modern Western learning.With the guidance of his own translating practice,Qian makes necessary modifications and forms his own translation theory.He advocates standardizing translation from the aspects of content,style and target language norms.Qian also focuses on“the notion of sublimation”;consequently,translators’subjective activity is highlighted.He emphasizes the combination of scientific accuracy and artistic sublimation.By“following his own inclination without exceeding the established rules”,a translator can realize his role as“a postman”.
