On the Historical Transition and Product Feature of Ancient Shiwan Kiln

石湾窑是岭南地区著名的陶窑,早期以生产日用陶器为大宗,行销各地及海外;后期仿历代名窑产品而勇于创新,并以极具岭南特色的艺术陶塑名扬天下,是佛山陶瓷文化的重要代表。善采各名窑之长而推陈出新的民窑传统,不仅扩大了石湾窑的生产领域,还提高了石湾窑艺术创新的空间,使其从普通的民窑成长为综合性窑口。兼收并蓄、宽泛包容的创作手法和不拘一格的艺术表现形式,提升了石湾窑陶塑作品的社会、文化和艺术价值,使其从民间走向殿堂。

As a famous pottery kiln in Lingnan area,Shiwan kiln mainly produces daily potteries at early stage and sells them to China market and overseas.At later stage,Shiwan kiln innovates its products by imitating other famous kilns’products,and it becomes famous by its potteries with Lingnan feature.Up to date,Shiwan Kiln represents for one of the most important part of ceramics culture in Foshan.Because of its positive and creative tradition,Shiwan kiln not only expands its production line,but also increases the space of its art innovation.That’s the reasons why Shiwan kiln has changed from a normal civilian kiln to a comprehensive kiln.Furthermore,its creative approaches and special artistic expressions has improved the social,cultural and artistic values of potteries from Shiwan kiln,to move these artworks from our society to a higher art palace.
