Concepts of Modernization in Oversea Travel Accounts During the Westernization Movement

在洋务运动时期的海外游记中,不同游历者在对西方的繁荣富强欣羡与赞叹之余,也在努力从政治、经济、教育、文化等方面寻求其繁盛的原因。与此同时,面对中西之间的巨大差距,他们中的不少人主张学习西方,因而传达出寻求国家独立自主、开明政治、男女平等以及合作开放、互利共赢等观念。

By investigating these oversea travel accounts during the westernization movement period,we know that these travelers not only envy and admire the strong and prosperous of the west but also try hard to find reasons for it in many aspects,like politics,economy,education,culture and so on.Facing the great difference between the west and the east,some people claim that we should learn from the west.There are many concepts in their travel accounts,such as the concept of seeking independence of the country,the concept of progressive politics,the concept of equality of men and women,and the concept of cooperation and opening to the outside world in order to make mutual benefit.
