Evaluation of left atrial morphology and function by echocardiography has been proposed as a predictor of risk of cardiovascular events. Also it can provide a reliable basis for the clinical diagnosis,treatment and prognosis of cardiovascular disease. This article reviews the methods for assessment of left atrial morphology and function by echocardiography.
