An Interpretation of Hannah Segal's Theory of Symbolization

汉娜·西格尔是"后克莱因学派"的主要代表人物之一,同时也是研究象征问题的先驱者。西格尔提出了"象征性等式"的概念,用以指代象征的最初形式,它也是精神分裂症患者具体思维的特征,即符号等同于被象征的客体;她也将之与真正的象征(即象征性表征)做了区分。西格尔深入探讨了这两种象征形成的动力学机制及作用,并将之应用于心理病理学以及艺术创造等领域。

Hannah Segal is one of major representatives of post-Kleinian school,and also a pioneer studying the problems of symbolization.She puts forward the concept of“symbolic equation”which means that the symbol is equated with the object symbolized;and she also distinguishes it from the real symbol(i.e.symbolic representation).Segal explores deeply the dynamic mechanisms of the two symbol formation,meanwhile she applies this to some fields such as psychoathology and artistic creativity.
