On Nanshe Scholars' Cultural Confidence

南社学人的文化是在一个复杂的思想文化环境中形成的,是南社学人所带有的独特的文化因素。他们有着为民族开启民智的责任心,有着革命事业必成的坚定信念,同时,还在恰当的时机选择了正确的方式。其自信主要来自于两个方面:一是中国传统知识分子的"天下兴亡,匹夫有责"观念和"修身、治国、平天下"信条;二是他们对清末社会现实的认识以及对世界其他民族的了解。

Nanshe scholars’culture was formed in a complex social and ideological context,which determined Nanshe scholars’cultural uniqueness.Apart from their responsibility of national enlightenment,they were also armed with a firm belief of the revolutionary victory,so they selected the right struggling modes at the right historical moment.Their cultural confidence evolved from two sources.The first one is traditional scholastic doctrines of“everyone’s obligation to a country’s rise and fall”and“self-cultivation,family affair management,national administration and rectification”.Secondly,they had a clear understanding to the social reality of both Qing Dynasty and other nationalities in the world.
