Research Progress in Red Blood Cell Distribution Width and Cardiovascular Diseases

红细胞体积分布宽度(RDW)为反映红细胞形态的指标,反映了循环池中红细胞体积的异质性及分布的不均一性,在临床上使用这一参数对贫血类型进行诊断和鉴别诊断。证据表明,RDW除反映红细胞形态异常外,还与其他疾病有高度相关性,如与急性冠状动脉综合征、脑卒中、心房颤动、心力衰竭、高血压等,并可作为上述疾病的显著及独立的预测指标。虽然RDW在心血管疾病发病中的作用尚不明确,但目前充足的证据表明,RDW的临床作用超出了红细胞相关疾病的范围,特别是对心脑血管疾病的支持和预测,并为上述疾病的诊断和预后提供独立的预测价值。

The red blood cell distribution width(RDW)is a rather simple measure of red blood cell size heterogeneity(i.e.anisocytosis),which is easily calculated by dividing the standard deviation of erythrocyte volumes for the mean corpuscular volume.Emerging evidence suggests that,besides red blood cell abnormalities,many human disorders may be frequently associated with RDW,such as acute coronary syndrome,stroke,atrial fibrillation,heart failure,hypertension,and can be a significant and independent predictive index of the above diseases.Although RDW function in cardiovascular diseases is not clear,there is ample evidence indicating that the clinical effect of RDW is beyond the scope of red blood cell related diseases,especially the support and prediction of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases,which provides the independent predictive value for the diagnosis and prognosis of the above mentioned diseases.
