Historical Changes of Macao's Defense System

葡萄牙殖民者于明朝时通过非法手段获准在澳门进行贸易,并窃据澳门,开始在澳门修建炮台、城墙等防御设施。澳门城防体系的构建历程长达数百年之久,成为葡萄牙殖民者对澳门实施殖民统治的文化符号。随着科技与历史的发展,澳门城防体系渐趋没落,但作为那个时代的产物,具有强烈的文化标志意义。

Portuguese colonists were allowed to trade in Macao through illegal means in Ming Dynasty,and occupied it unjustly.It began to build the defensive facilities such as forts and ramparts in Macao.The construction process of Macao’s defense system lasted for hundreds of years,and becomes a cultural symbol of Portuguese colonists’colonial domination over Macao.With the development of science and technology and history,the system of the Macao’s defense has gradually declined,but as the product of that era,it has a strong cultural symbol significance.
