The Cultural Code of Slab Stone Tombs at Dayi Mountain

连云港市灌云县境内的"大伊山石棺墓葬群"应该称为"大伊山石板棺葬群",这是中国境内现存的最古老的石板棺葬群。葬群遗址中发现的遗骸多为女性和儿童,说明当时该地区东夷人尚处在母系氏族社会。远古时代的连云港东夷人所建造的石棺虽然在外形上与今天的棺材基本一致,但是在功用上存在着本质的区别:前者为"藏",后者为"葬"。用陶钵盖头的目的是对"葬者"的抢救措施,而不是为方便死者灵魂升天。连云港东夷人创造的文化是儒家孝文化之源。

The“Dayi Mountain Tombs of Sarcophagus”in Guanyun County,Lianyungang City should be called“Dayi Mountain Slab stone Tombs”,which are the earliest slab stone tombs found in China.The remains discovered in the site were mostly women and children,revealing the fact that the Dongyi people living in Lianyungang were still in the matriarchy society.Although the sarcophagus built by ancient Dongyi people in Lianyungang had the basically same appearance with coffins today,they were naturally different in the aspect of function.The former is to“store”while the latter is to“bury”.Using earthenware pot to cover the head of the corpse is the rescue measure to“the buried”,instead of helping the soul going to heaven.The cultural creation of Dongyi People in Lianyungang is the source of filial piety culture of Confucianism.
