翻译在中国革命进程中的作用

The Role of Translation in the Process of Chinese Revolution

在中国革命的进程中,翻译扮演了一个十分重要的角色,但是它的这种角色在不同的阶段有所不同:(1)作为文化启蒙的手段,这主要体现在民主革命时期;(2)为意识形态服务,这一角色主要体现在社会主义革命开始直到文革结束;(3)作为向世界开放之窗口,这一角色主要体现在改革开放以来直到21世纪初;(4)作为重绘全球文化和世界文学之版图的方式,这一角色主要体现在进入21世纪以来的改革开放纵深阶段。总之,翻译使得中国更接近世界:它一方面能将世界上的先进科学技术和人文思想理论引进中国,加速中国的现代化进程;另一方面,它又可以将中国的文化和文学译介到世界,从而对全球文化和世界文学作出自己的独特贡献。因此,翻译既是必不可少的,同时又是十分重要的。

In the process of Chinese revolution,translation has always been playing a very important role which varies in different periods,(1)as a means of cultural enlightenment,which manifests chiefly in the period of the democratic revolution;(2)as an instrument of ideology,which finds main embodiment in the period from the beginning of socialist revolution to the end of the Cultural Revolution;(3)as a window through which to access to the outside world,which chiefly manifests in the period of the reform and opening up till the beginning of the present century;(4)as a way of remapping global culture and world literature,which finds particular embodiment since the beginning of the new century when the reform has come to a deep-going stage.In short,translation has enabled China to be closer to the world:on the one hand,it has brought to China the most advanced science and technology as well as intellectual thoughts thus speeding up China’s modernization;on the other hand,it also enables China to introduce its culture and literature to the world thus contributing a lot to global culture and world literature.In view of all the above,we do think that translation is both inevitable and important in China.
