冷遹是在我国旧民主主义革命和新民主主义革命以及社会主义革命与建设中都做出重要贡献的革命家、实业家与职业教育家。他在中华职业教育社与黄炎培、江恒源、杨卫玉并称"四老",享有"职教派"之美誉。他既长期担任中华职业教育社的重要工作,又于家乡镇江黄墟农村改革试验区创办私立镇江女子职业学校等多所职教学校,为提升人民文化水平、促进地方经济建设、改善人民生活水平做出了卓异贡献。他所创建的"因地制宜、服从需要的实用思想""交友名流、校企互惠的协作思想""贴近实践、现场传授的教学思想""公平职教、形式灵活的仁爱思想",是我国职教思想宝库中一笔可贵的精神财富,对于我国当代职教事业的发展,必将具有深刻的启迪意义与有力的促进作用。

Leng Yu was called one of the four aged people together with Huang Yanpei,Jinag Hengyuan and Yang Weiyu in Chinese Vocational Educational Institute.He did a lot work in the institute and created several vocational schools by which contributed remarkably to lifting people’s educational level,advancing local economic construction and improving people’s livelihood.His vocational thought including contents of practice,cooperation,on-site teaching and benevolence is a valuable spiritual wealth for vocational education in China.It has deep inspiration significance and will promote the development of contemporary vocational education in China.
