在清末民初社会激烈动荡与转型时期,作为江西新昌的乡贤精英,胡思敬在地方社会发展中发挥着重要作用。他恪守儒家传统的政治伦理,以修身、齐家、治国、平天下为信条,从事于各种有益于乡梓、有益于社会的公益活动,如倡捐医局、创建图书馆、设立书院、修缮先贤祠宇、编纂整理地方史志及文献资料等。其所作所为,可谓惠及乡梓,功在国家。胡思敬传承、发展中国传统文化的热忱之心,兢兢业业、一丝不苟的治学精神,务实忘我、广搜博采的态度和方法,历久弥珍。钩沉这段史实,具有十分重要的现实意义。

During the period of social turbulence and transformation in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China,Hu Sijing,one of the rural gentry in Xinchang,Jiangxi,played an important role in the local society.He abided by the Confucian tradition and political morality,followed the belief of cultivating his character,putting his family affairs in order and ruling the country and making peace,engaged in a variety of public welfare activities beneficial to the local and the society,such as advocating and donating for the establishment of the bureau of medicine,setting up the library,repairing the ancestral hall and compiling local chronicles and literature,etc.What he did benefited both the local society and the country.It is of great significance to study and value his enthusiasm about inheriting and developing traditional Chinese culture,conscientious and meticulous study spirit,empirical,selfless and extensive searching and absorbing attitude and method.
