梅州是当今客家人聚集地之一,享有"世界客都"之称。宋元时期是梅州地区客家人发展、形成的重要时期。长时间的战乱以及人地关系引发的生存问题,迫使赣南、福建等地的人口开始向粤北迁移,梅州成为一个重要的人口徙入地。大量客家先民的迁入对这一地区的开发发挥了重要作用,对这一地区的历史产生了深远影响。

Nowadays,Meizhou is one of the gathering places of the Hakka,enjoying the title of"capital of hakka in the world".Song and Yuan Dynasties are two important periods for the development and formation of Hakka in Meizhou area.People in the southern part of Jiangxi province and Fujian province began to immigrate to the northern part of Guangdong province because of the prolonged war and the survival problems triggered by man-land relations,and Meizhou became an important area of immigration.The immigration of a large number of Hakka ancestors played an important role in the development of this area and had a profound impact on the history of the area.
