Based on the current international categorization and classification on Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships(MASS),the paper explains the definition and classification criteria for MASS,analyzes the operation modes of MASS,the influence of MASS on ship manning,and the potential requirements for seafarer competencies.In terms of the development trend of MASS,the paper puts forward suggestions on the administration concerning the manning of MASS.
