曹祖彬图书馆生涯再考辨

A Survey of Tsao Tsu-ping's Life and His Contributions to Modern Chinese Librarianship

曹祖彬是中国现代图书馆事业史与图书馆学教育史上的重要人物之一。文章通过挖掘耶鲁大学神学院图书馆馆藏亚联董档案中的金陵大学档案,民国期间金陵大学编印的《金陵大学校刊》《金陵光》等校园出版物,《中华图书馆协会会报》《图书馆学季刊》《申报》《大公报》等民国报刊,以及《哥伦比亚大学一览》等英文文献,结合曹祖彬家人的口述资料,基本梳理清楚曹祖彬的生平与贡献,包括他在中美两国的求学经历,在金陵大学图书馆、四川省立图书馆等处的工作经历,他与中国现代图书馆专业团体的关系,他在中国现代图书馆专业人才培养方面扮演的角色,以及著述成果。

Mr.Tsao Tsu-ping was among the key figures in modern Chinese librarianship.This paper makes an indepth excavation,collation and use of all kinds of historical materials related to Mr.Tsao,including the Archives of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia reserved in the Yale Divinity Library,some University of Nanking publications,Bulletin of Library Association of China,Library Science Quarterly,Shen Bao(Shanghai Post),Ta Kung Pao,Columbia University Catalogues,and information provided by Mr.Tsao’s families.Based on such historical materials,Mr.Tsao’s life,including his school years in both China and U.S.A.,his library career in the University of Nanking,Sichuan Provincial Library and other institutions,his relationship with Nanking Library Association and the Library Association of China,his role in modern Chinese library science education,and his writings,has been basically made clear.
