This paper introduces the basic idea of bootstrapping and use it to a case history to illustrate the inaccuracy of the mean and variance estimated from limited geotechnical data.Moreover,using the bootstrapping,the statistical uncertainty associated with the estimated mean and variance are effectively quantified.This is important to evaluate the reliability of relevant design or analysis.
