受齐鲁地域文化影响,王统照善于从道德视角观察和描摹人物。兼具传统与现代文化修养的王统照在小说创作中摆脱了意识形态束缚,塑造了众多性格丰满的乡绅人物形象。按照时间序列,乡绅分为旧乡绅和新乡绅,王统照对两类形象都有所描摹,并以理解之同情写出了他们在时代变迁中的生活,特别是道德生活和心路历程。王统照的乡绅系列小说创造了一种不同于主流的"反启蒙"叙事,具有以小窥大的历史文化价值。

Influenced by Qilu regional culture,Wang Tongzhao is good at observing and depicting characters from a moral perspective.The influence of both traditional and modern cultural accomplishment and unique regional culture liberated his novels from the ideological constraints and portrayed a number of vivid squire characters.Squires can be divided into old squires and new squires in different times.Wang Tongzhao describes the two kinds of images and depicts the changes of the times,especially the changes of moral life and the mental process.Wang Tongzhao’s squire series of novels created a kind of“anti– enlightenment”narrative which is different from the mainstream and has the historical and cultural value of talking big from small.
