柳诒徵是中国现代著名的文化保守主义史学家,其历史观实质上是儒家人本主义演化观。他认为历史演化既有进化,又有退化;历史进化应当以道德为本,在历史演化中道德往往是退化的;中国历史演化"有因有革"的规律,中国历史发展和文化演进最能体现人本主义精神。这种历史观是以儒家道德本位的人本主义为原则、同时吸收近代进化史观而形成的,体现了文化保守主义性质。这种历史观虽然在理论上存在诸多不能自洽和矛盾之处,然而,它反映了对历史进化论和中国历史发展的独到思考,揭示了中国历史发展的独特性和中国文化的精神所在。

Liu Yizhcng is a famous cultural conservative historian in modern China,whose theory of history is essentially the evolution of Confucian humanism.He thought that historical evolution has both evolution and degeneration;historical evolution should be based on morality,and morality tends to degenerate in historical evolution.The evolution of Chinas history and the development of Chinese cultural can best embody humanism.His historical theory is formed by the humanism of Confucian moral standard and the assimilation of modern history of evolution,which embodies the nature of cultural conservatism.The historical theory have although many contradictions in theory,however,but it reflects the unique way of thinking about historical evolution and the development of Chinese history,reveals the uniqueness of the development of Chinese history and the spirit of Chinese culture.
