19世纪第一位来华美国新教医疗传教士伯驾在中国的角色不仅是医生和传教士，还是一位致力于推动中美交流的外交家。伯驾来华通过行医传播基督教,使行医传教成为传播基督教的一个强有力的手段。同时以他为代表的传教士的医疗社会活动不仅帮助中国百姓消除了身体上的痛苦，而且开启了近代西医和西医教育在中国的接受和发展。此外，伯驾在中国的外交活动推动了近代中美交流的开展，也促成了近代中美外交条约的签订。

In the 19th century,the first American medical missionary Peter Parker was not only a doctor and missionary,but also a diplomate trying to promote China-U.S.exchange.Peter Parker evangelized by practicing medicine,and started modem western medical education in China,making it acceptable in China.In addition Peter Parker's diplomatic activity in China promoted the modem China-U.S.exchange and the signing of the diplomatic treaty between China and the U.S.
