Objective To investigate the relationship between the invasion and metastasis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC)and the expressions of tumor metastasis related gene2(MTA2)and CD34.Methods The expressions of MTA2 and CD34 in normal esophageal tissues(30 cases)and ESCC tissues(80 cases)were detected with immuneohistochemical staining. The correlations between MTA2,clinical and pathologi-cal features of ESCC,and microvessel density(MVD)labeled by CD34 were analyzed. Results The expression of MTA2 was positively correlated not only with MVD in ESCC(r=0.777,P<0.01).In addition, the expression of MTA2 was positively correlated with depth of tumor invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage, but nega-tively correlated with the degree of differentiation of ESCC(r=-0.645,P<0.05).MVD was positively correlated significantly with tumor size, depth of invasion,TNM stage, tumor differentiation degree and lymph node metasta-sis in ESCC(P<0.05).Conclusion The combining detection of both MTA2 and CD34 expressions may provide an important basis for diagnosis of ESCC metastasis and new targets for anti-angiogenic therapy for ESCC.
