Trading Network of Cao Family in Taigu

从太谷曹家的发展历史来看,他们应该是乾嘉时期在东北从事商贸活动,清末俄国兴建铁路后,在哈尔滨、海参崴、伊尔库斯克、莫斯科等地设置分庄。形成以铁路为主的商贸网络。至于在华北所形成的商贸网络则是依循晋商经营中俄贸易路线,从北京、张家口、库伦、恰克图。曹家参与此贸易的时间较晚,在库伦和张家口档案中可以看到他们的商号锦丰泰与德国合作,从事蒙古毛皮的采购。

From the history of development of Cao Family in Taigu,they may engage in the trading activities in northeastern China during Qianjia Period.After the constructions of the railway by Russians in the late Qing,Cao Family set some branches in Kharbin,Vladivostok,Irkutsk,and Moscow etc.,thus forming a trading network that was majorly based on the railway.On the other hand,the trading network in North China followed the route managed by Shanxi merchants for China-Russia trade.This network included Beijing,Zhangjiakou,Kulun,and Kyakhta.Although the later time when Cao Family engaged in this trading network,it can be seen that there was a cooperation between Cao Family’s brand“Jinfengtai”and Germans for purchasing Mongolian fur from archives about Kulun and Zhangjiakou.
